Quinte West discussed the plans for provincial high speed rail during Wednesday’s meeting of council.
A resident made a brief presentation to council, highlighting concerns with the proposed “southern corridor” which could stretch through the community. She said that the new rail line could end up dividing farms, nature spaces, and the community by becoming a roadblock that residents would need to travel around.
The presentation sparked some discussion among council, and municipal staff informed council that they had recently been speaking to Alto, and there were more meetings planned as part of the public consultation process.
Council considered officially opposing a route through the community, but decided to wait until more information is released about the proposed routes before making a decision.
