It will come as a surprise to exactly no one that the first month of the year brought a massive dose of winter weather.
As measured at CFB Trenton, the usual amount of snowfall in January in this region is 44 centimetres.
Last month almost three times that amount fell at 117.6 cm (almost 4 feet).
That’s a little more than the usual 107 cm that falls on the Quinte region annually.
We ended the month with 48 cm of snow on the ground, although on January 27 there was a record 61 cm of snow
cover.
The record daily snowfall last month was 37 cm on January 25.
Despite the dumping of snow there was still time for a little rain to hit the area as well.
Thirty-one millimetres of rain fell last month.
As far as temperatures are concerned, the average high in January was minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, colder than the historical average of 1.6 degrees.
The average low was minus 13.
That compares to the usual January average low of minus 11.
