OPP are investigating the death of an inmate at Bath Institution, west of Kingston.
On January 29, 2026 shortly before 10 a.m., an inmate was located in medical distress in his cell.
He was transported to a local hospital and was later air-lifted to a trauma centre in Toronto.
The individual, identified by Correctional Service Canada as 49-year-old Patrick Conway, was pronounced deceased on January 31, 2026.
Conway had been serving a 3-year, 5-month sentence, since June 24, 2024.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The OPP-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad is investigating the death, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
Investigators are also working closely with the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Forensic Pathology Service and Correctional Service of Canada, with support from the OPP Forensic Identification Service.
