Toys “R” Us Canada is facing a wave of lawsuits from landlords who say the retailer owes more than $31 million in unpaid rent.
Court filings show at least seven cases tied to missed payments at malls in Ontario and New Brunswick during 2024 and 2025. Landlords named in the suit include RioTrin Properties and Primaris Real Estate Investment Trust with properties such as Quinte Mall and McAllister Place.
The company exited many of the sites and declined to comment as it continues to shrink its Canadian footprint.
The store in Quinte Mall closed last year.
