The Ontario government is providing nearly $10.9 million in critical municpal water sewer and road infrastructure funding for the village of Stirling.
That announcement was made by MPP Ric Bresee at the municipal offices of Stirling-Rawdon on Thursday.
The $10,871,798 will go towards the rehabilitation of water infrastructure along Belleville Road, East Front Street and North Street.
“They put forward a great application, and as a result, it rose to the top, and we were able to actually achieve that funding,” Bresee told reporters after the announcement.
“(It’s) wonderful to see the focus that the province is putting on those small and rural municipalities, recognizing that, on a per kilometre basis, it just costs more out here.”
Funding comes from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program – Health and Safety Water Stream.

According to a release from the township, the funding is part of a $15 million intiative from the municipality towards rehabilitating and modernizing aging water infrastructure and support related wastewater and stormwater systems within the project area.
The mayor of Stirling-Rawdon, Bob Mullin, says the work is long overdue.
“The old road, especially the first impression you get coming into town, the Belleville Road section, is badly broken up, and it’s beyond the point where just a minimal repair would do it,” Mullin tells reporters.
“However, without replacing the piping and the underground structure, we’ve been reluctant to repave it. This will allow us to now do the full correction, and it will last.”
According to a release from the township, design work on the project is expected to begin this year with public information sessions to be held once more details on the project become available.
