Hastings County is planning to move forward with a combined per diem and salary payment model for council positions in 2026.
The discussion of the funding models occurred during Wednesday’s meeting of the Finance, Property, and Personnel Committee.
Three models of compensation for council members were considered; a fully per diem model, a fully-salaried model, and the blended approach. The base salary for councillors is $12,145 per councillor with additional duties being compensated with per diem paid at $486.94. This is the 2025 per diem rate plus a 3% cost of living adjustment.
The committee voted to recommend the combined model to council, which will go before Hastings County Council at a future meeting for a final decision.
