Prince Edward County has decided to take a look at the noise by-law after a request from the Picton Food Bank to waive fees associated with getting a noise permit for a fundraiser event they held on New Year’s Eve.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, council heard a deputation from Moira Coull, who was representing the food bank. She detailed the process they went through to get a noise permit for their end-of-the-year fundraiser event, and requested that council consider donating those fees back to the food bank. During her deputation, she explained how they had to go through an extensive process to get all their required permits, including knocking on the doors of homes surrounding the venue to get the residents’ approval.
The deputation lead to a brief discussion by council, and resulted in a motion by Councillor Sam Branderhorst to have the fee waived, and for staff to look into the possibility of allowing municipal staff to waive similar fees for community groups holding fundraiser events.
The motion passed after brief discussion.
