While the cost of living continues to rise and it doesn’t seem like that will change in 2026, Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board Executive Director Dug Stevenson remains optimistic.
The region remains extremely attractive to people considering a move.
“And so relatively speaking we are still in a good spot because somebody can sell their home in the GTA, walk away with a couple of hundred thousand dollars and have an amazing place to make a life here.”
Stevenson says there are also a lot of great jobs available in the region that make it worth moving here.
Film and television production is a budding industry in the Quinte region.
Stevenson says the establishment of the Bay of Quinte Film Office is already attracting business and he expects more in 2026.
“This year alone we had six productions, over 100 production days. You know, 30 local crew were hired for that – $3.7 million in economic impact from just those six productions. We’re talking HGTV, Crave, TVO Kids.”
He says he’s spoken with dozens of individuals who work in the film and television sector who would be willing to move to the region if opportunities continue to grow here.
