Quinte News is looking ahead to 2026.
The mayor of Quinte West, Jim Harrison, says that the number one issue that not only the City of Quinte West is facing, but any municipality in the region, is infrastructure.
That includes bridges.
“We’ve got some bridges that have to be done, the one on Wooler Road by Murray Centennial School. It started out at a few million, it’s now up to several million,” Mayor Harrison tells Quinte News outlining some of the projects.
“We’re trying to get the federal government to do work on the bridge at the canal. That’s a big project there, because that has to be done properly and efficiently.”
Harrison noted other regular updates with culverts and bridges around the city to help maintain traffic levels.
He says that one of the things being looked at as well is continued growth of the city, citing 8 Wing Trenton as a key contributor.
“We need to, obviously, improve our health care system so that they’ve got attachments to doctors, and families are looked after, and the school system,” Harrison said when mentioning about the benefit of having 8 Wing Trenton nearby.
“8 Wing is a big part of Quinte West, and I really appreciate the people there and how they travel all over the world to make things better for other countries and other people in other parts of the world. So we’re truly blessed with a number of a variety of activities going on, on a daily basis.”
