Quinte News spoke to Prince Edard County Mayor Steve Ferguson about 2025, now that the year is drawing to a close.
Mayor Ferguson said there were a lot of projects in the community this year to be proud of.
“I think the confirmation of the hospital was a gigantic win. Getting provincial funding for County Road 49 was a very big win and a step in the right direction,” said Mayor Ferguson. “The development of H.J. McFarland Memorial home began in 2025 so we’re happy about that.”
The mayor also said the new silos at Picton Terminals are an important project, and that they are an important support for the local agricultural community.
While the county achieved a lot of goals this year, they also had to plan for the next. Mayor Ferguson said that preparing next year’s budget was an important process to get right.
“It’s council’s job to go through each item, line by line, which is exactly what we did, and determine what was in the best interests of the community,” said Mayor Ferguson
While the budget had originally been proposed with an 11% tax increase, council was able to reduce that to 3.59%.
