As 2025 comes to an end, Quinte News spoke with Hastings County Warden Bob Mullin about the year that’s past.
Looking back at the year’s achievements, Warden Mullin said they made great strides in addressing the ongoing homelessness problem.
“We finally purchased and created a permanent location in Bancroft, so that discussion has been settled. Not everybody’s happy with that location. It’s the best of what was available,” said Warden Mullin. “We actually went ahead this year and created that new building in Quinte West, the 34-unit apartment building.”
While great progress has been made in some areas, Hastings County still faces some challenges with the budget.
“The amount of money we’re spending at a municipal level on doctor recruitment and health services, which is something we’ve never had to do. You know that’s coming at the cost of other services,” said Warden Mullin.
Despite the challenges faced, there was also progress made to expand access to child care in 2025, with the county reaching its full allotment of childcare spaces.
