The Quinte Judo Club presented their annual “Judoka of the Year’ award last week, with Patrick Taylor qualifying to be this year’s recipient.
The Judoka award is presented to the member that best exemplifies enthusiasm, discipline & perseverance.
Prior to joining judo Patrick had practiced wrestling for two years before joining the local judo club.
Judoka of the Year was started in 1987 as a way to recognize the hardworking youth participating in judo, while the club was still at the YMCA in Belleville.
The club has relocated several times in order to keep things affordable, with the Quinte Masonic Centre in Frankford being the current location.
Judoka of the Year is named in memory of Sensei James Driscoll, the pioneer of judo in this area.
