On Monday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m., a citizen in the area Beverly Street and Union Street observed two suspects actively stealing parcels from the porches of residences.
The citizen contacted police and provided police dispatchers with a description of the suspects. The information provided by the citizen was then relayed to members of the Uniform Patrol Division who located the suspects in the area of Earl Street and Collingwood Street.
Both suspects were arrested and upon being searched officers located a number of items and weapons in the suspect’s possession. Along with some of the items believed to have been taken from porches in the area, officers also seized a can of bear spray, brass knuckles, a switchblade and two sets of bolt cutters.
The suspects were transported to Kingston police headquarters where a secondary search was conducted which led to the discovery of a quantity of crystal methamphetamine.
Officers were also able to return the stolen items to their rightful owner.
A 31-year-old individual of Kingston was charged with theft under $5000, possession of break-in instruments, possession of weapons dangerous to the public peace, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and possession of a schedule II substance.
A 36-year-old individual of Kingston was charged with theft under $5000, possession of break-in instruments, possession of weapons dangerous to the public peace.
Kingston police encourage citizens to utilize the option of having a package delivered to a designated pick-up location.
