A new community art initiative by Belleville Transit puts art by local students in city buses.
The first installation features creations by the Grade 5 class at Prince Charles Public School.
Their project, “Where the Bus Takes Us”, now brightens the interior panels of a Belleville Transit bus.
The initiative started with a simple idea: bringing more colour and creativity to Belleville Transit by showcasing local student artwork.
By adding original artwork to buses, the aim is to make every ride a little brighter, sparking curiosity and enjoyment for passengers of all ages.
“This experience has been wonderful for our students,” said Lisa Howard, Grade 5 teacher at Prince Charles Public School. “They loved collaborating, exploring their creativity, and seeing that their artwork can have a place outside the classroom and in the community. The students couldn’t believe their work would be displayed on a Belleville Transit bus. It’s something they’ll remember for years.”
The Grade 5 class is just the first group to have their art displayed, as Belleville Transit is looking to work with other schools and classrooms for future installations.
“We’re incredibly proud to partner with local schools on this initiative,” said Brad Strauss, manager of Transit Services. “Seeing students’ artwork come to life on our buses is inspiring, and we look forward to expanding this program throughout the community.”
Belleville Transit is looking to partner with additional classrooms and schools as the initiative grows, offering more students the opportunity to share their creativity with the community.
The project will continue to create opportunities for local businesses to support arts and culture through advertising partnerships on Belleville Transit, connecting with riders while helping to brighten everyday commutes.
