Picton Terminals, a deep-water industrial port near Picton, will be up for discussion tonight at a meeting of Prince Edward County council.
A delegation will make a presentation to council stating that Picton Terminal’s owners are defying a 2018 judge’s decision by continuing to stockpile aggregate, and excavate pits on the Sophiasburgh ward portion of the port’s property.
The delegation maintains the judge’s order only allowed equipment storage and other activities allowed under rural zoning.
The judge ruled that bulk cargo transhipment could occur on the majority of the property in Hallowell ward.
Later in the meeting, Councillor John Hirsch will make a motion asking for a staff report on activities at the Sophiasburgh portion of Picton Terminals and ask for a response from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
A 2024 settlement between the county and Picton Terminals states that port operations could be increased in so-called “expansion lands.”
