Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board Grade 3 and 6 students improved their year-over-year gains in three out of six testing areas, and remained relatively unchanged in other areas. Secondary students improved in math in the most recent Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results.
“We are encouraged to see that our Grade 3 and 6 students have made improvements in a number of areas, with year-over-year gains as well by our secondary students,” says Rita Russo, Director of Education. “Along with students across the province, each year we see some increases or dips over time. We are especially pleased that when we look at growth and improvement by student cohorts – comparing student results in Grade 3 with how well they do when tested in Grade 6 – we see very strong gains, including an approximate 20% improvement in Writing and over 10% gain in Reading. Those improvements within a cohort over time encourage us that the focused work of our teachers, school administrators, and program leaders is on the right path.”
“Our goal is to maintain stable, steady growth for students across all disciplines, and those efforts are ongoing. We will continue to be intentional and focused in helping students master the challenging concepts within mathematics instruction,” says Russo.
“While we are pleased to see progress for our students in some subject areas, we have all pledged to look for further improvement, especially in the critical area of mathematics. We also want to acknowledge the hard work of our students, teachers, administrators and support staff in preparing for these annual assessments,” says Paul Brown, Chairperson of the Board.
