Donations are coming in to the Salvation Army’s kettle campaign, however, at this point organizers say the need for volunteers to collect those donations is even stronger.
Christmas campaign coordinator Richard Smith says they simply don’t have enough volunteers to man the 10 kettles located across the city of Belleville.
This year‘s campaign goal is $365,000 after $357,000 was raised last year.
Kettle Campaign donations fund multiple local Salvation Army programs including their dinner programs.
Smith says the donation kettles are extremely important as for a second straight year they are not engaging in a mail campaign due to the uncertainty with Canada Post.
A full mail strike was on during last year‘s campaign and this year there were still rotating strikes underway at the outset of the mail campaign, so organizers decided to forgo it again.
Salvation Army is accepting cheques at the Bridge St. West church or they can be dropped in the kettles.
Tax receipts will be mailed.

Potential volunteers can also call the church directly at 613–968–6834 extension 35.
The Kettle Campaign ends December 23.
