YMCA Fundraising Coordinator Charity Brown says there are five amazing couples being honoured.
“In Belleville it will be Bob and Barbara Jo Clute, Jamie and Nancy Troke, and Ed and Fran Lehtinen. In Quinte West, we are honouring Tom and Lorraine O’Quinn and Ken and Cynthia Schmidt.”
Brown says they have held numerous roles within committees and boards, given large amounts of sweat equity and financial support to the Y in the Quinte region.
“It’s people like this that keep these programs open, that remove the financial barriers that some may have in order to access all the wonderful programs and classes and opportunities that the YMCA offers.”
The Clutes, Trokes, and Lehtinens will receive their medals at a luncheon at Dinkel’s on Monday, December 8, while the O’Quinns and Schmidts will be celebrated at Tomasso’s on Tuesday, December 9.

YMCA Peace Medals are presented to individuals or groups who, without any special resources, status, wealth or position, demonstrate a commitment to the values of PEACE through contributions made within their local, national, or global community.
Since 1987, more than 1,900 individuals and groups across Canada have been recognized for their peacebuilding work with YMCA Peace Medals. When we award YMCA Peace Medals, we celebrate others’ contributions to peace.
Each year, the YMCA of Central East Ontario honours local peacemakers with a YMCA Peace Medal at several community events across the region. Watch for details on this year’s recipients who encompass the values of the YMCA Peace Medal.
