The Hastings Prince Edward District School Board celebrated their longest-ever serving trustee on Wednesday.
At Trent River Public School, well over 100 community members, family, friends, students, and supporters were on hand to celebrate Samuel Clements.
Clements served on the school board (of various names) for 37 years.
After his celebration, he spoke to Quinte News about his time around the horseshoe.
“Things always change. Between closing schools and opening new ones, you get concerned about curriculum, it’s just always something going on. Then there’s the business end of it too.”
We asked him what he thought about the day celebrating his service.
“To say it overwhelms me! I didn’t serve to get honoured, I served because I thought that was a good thing to do.”
He first began serving in 1978, when the county school board was just ten years old.
