Northumberland OPP have charged several drivers with impaired driving, along with other offences.
The first incident occurred on the morning of November 21, when officers on patrol along County Road 2 in Alnwick/Haldimand Township were alerted by the in-cruiser Automated Licence Plate Recognition system to a pickup truck displaying unattached plates.
The vehicle was stopped, and an impaired driving investigation was initiated. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
Andrew Bird, a 57-year-old from Trenton, was charged with operation while impaired, having an open liquor container while driving, driving without insurance, failure to surrender permit for a vehicle, driving a vehicle without two plates, and using plates not authorized for the vehicle.
On November 22, another incident took place where officers received an alert from the automatic plate reader that a car was linked to a driver whose licence was suspended. The motorist was confirmed as prohibited and uninsured.
Garett Thomson, a 45-year-old from Trent Hills, was charged with operation while prohibited, driving while under suspension, and operating a vehicle without insurance.
In a separate incident that same day, officers responded to a call after a Hamilton resident reported a vehicle that had driven across a lawn, causing property damage before leaving the scene.
Officers located the driver and began an impaired driving investigation. The individual was arrested and transported for further tests.
Christien Degenova, a 26-year-old from Cobourg, was charged with operation while impaired, failure to remain, and failure to report an accident.
In another incident on Sunday evening, officers received a traffic complaint regarding a suspected impaired driver on Dominion Street in Trent Hills. Police found the vehicle which had several child passengers, and initiated an impaired driving investigation.
The driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests.
The driver, who is not being named to protect the identities of the children, was charged with operation while impaired, blood alcohol over 80, driving while suspended, and driving with liquor available.
All of the accused have future court dates scheduled. For each impaired driving charge, their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for a week.
