Belleville City Council is calling on local MPs and MPPs to take part in a special council meeting in January 2026.
The motion brought forward by Councillor Paul Carr calls for a roundtable discussion with members of parliament and provincial parliament to discuss a number of topics.
These include legislative changes and government programs to address housing and addictions & mental health, consultation with the city related to planning, the downloading of funding responsibilities to the city, and previous resolutions that were sent by council to local offices that did not receive a response.
The idea for the roundtable comes from the City of Windsor’s roundtable chat with their local MPs and MPPs last week.
Local MPs invited would include Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette and Hastings—Lennox and Addington—Tyendinaga MP Shelby Kramp-Neuman.
MPPs invited would include Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp and Hastings—Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee.
The motion was passed in a unanimous recorded vote.
