A 36-year-old man was arrested following a hostage incident involving a child in Belleville on Saturday night.
Belleville police responded to the city’s west end around 9:40 p.m. after receiving a report of screaming coming from a residence.
Officers attended the residence and observed a male holding a young child.
The male then brandished a knife before retreating into the residence and locking the door.
Police established containment around the home and around 10:20 p.m., the male exited the residence and, after a brief foot pursuit, was taken into custody.
The child was unharmed.
The Belleville man was arrested and charged with:

He was held for a bail hearing.
