Correctional Service Canada is reporting the death of an inmate at Bath Institution.
Jan Vanderplaat died while in custody on November 11 of apparent natural causes.
At the time of death, the inmate was 72 years old and had been serving a five-year sentence since April 24, 2023.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances.
CSC policy requires that the police and coroner be notified.
