A blaze in Belleville this week is a great reminder of how critical working smoke alarms are.
On Thursday morning, city fire members responded to 52 Donald Street, between North Front and North Park Street.
Fire Prevention Officer Greg Gorsline tells Quinte News working smoke alarms alerted occupants of the multi-unit residential building and helped them escape.
Quick response by the suppression crews contained the fire to one unit.
There were no injuries and damage is estimated at $100,000.
The cause is still under investigation.
“Belleville Fire and Emergency Services is reminding all residents to check and ensure they have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms on each level of their home and have a home escape plan.”
