The commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police has honoured the mayor of Quinte West.
On Thursday, Thomas Carrique stopped by the Quinte West OPP detachment.
Jim Harrison was presented the Commissioner’s Gold Medal as part of the visit.
Detachment Commander Inspector Kristy McNaughton.
“There’s only a limited number of these medals presented to an individual. There’s actually a registry that that name is added to. It’s given to an individual that exemplifies the OPP’s values.”
Detachment Commander Inspector Kristy McNaughton says the visit was about 90 minutes.
“We had a meeting just discussing the partnership and how well we work together. Then the commissioner took a significant amount of time and actually met with the officers in the detachment, just to introduce himself to anyone that hadn’t met him yet and just have those conversations with the officers that were working today (Thursday).”
She added that having a good partnership with the municipality is critical to maintaining a strong force.
