Two men are facing weapon and drug charges after a traffic stop in Peterborough on Thursday night.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., Peterborough police noticed a car travelling at a high rate of speed in the Lansdowne street area.
Officers located the vehicle a short time later in the area of Townsend Street and Aylmer Street and initiated a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver, the officer noticed drug paraphernalia within the vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located a weapon, ammunition and various drugs.
As a result, a 39-year-old Peterborough man was charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – crack cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Fentanyl
- Possession of over 30g dried cannabis
The accused is also currently on a conditional sentence order, a lifetime weapons prohibition order, and is bound by a probation order.
The accused was further charged with:
- Fail to comply with probation
- possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
The accused was held in custody for a court appearance Friday.
As a further result of the investigation, a 32-year-old Peterborough man has also been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance
The accused was released on an undertaking and scheduled to attend court on December 16,2025.
