The numbers are going in the right direction when it comes to EQAO testing (Education Quality and Accountability Officer) for Grade 9 math, within the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board.
At the Monday evening meeting of the board of trustees, a presentation was made in regard to testing in 2023-24 to 2024-25.

In ’23-’24, just 36 per cent of HPEDSB Grade 9 students met the provincial standard for mathematics.
That is compared to 54 per cent of students across Ontario.
A group of educators from Prince Edward Collegiate Institute made a presentation to the board of trustees.
PECI was at just 18 per cent in 2023-24 for Grade 9 mathematics.

The delegation discussed a strategy change in the classroom called a “Thinking Classroom.”
The numbers went up dramatically for both PECI and across the HPE board in just 12 months.
PECI – 2023-24 = 18% HPEDSB – 2023-24 = 36% Provincial average 2023-24 = 54%
PECI – 2024-25 = 45% HPEDSB – 2024-25 = 46% Provincial average 2024-25 = 54%
The unofficial 2024-’25 results also indicate the student average went up over the per cent level as well.
