The City of Quinte West issued the following statement on the passing of longtime councillor Sally Freeman:
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Councillor Sally Freeman.
Councillor Freeman’s career in public service began in 1995 when she was elected as an alderman to the City of Trenton. Since then, Councillor Freeman has been at the forefront of many significant projects that have made a positive impact on the local community, including her involvement on the board that oversaw the amalgamation of Quinte West in 1998 and supporting the construction of the Quinte West Fire/Rescue Headquarters and Station 1 in 2018.
Among her political accomplishments, Councillor Freeman took pride in her contributions to the Quinte Museum of Natural History, her service on the board of directors for Trenval, and her collaboration with the Ontario Health Coalition to address barriers to quality home care for families in Quinte West.
Outside of her duties on council, Sally appreciated the natural beauty of Quinte West in all seasons, and has logged many miles exploring the city’s abundant trails, parks and waterfront amenities.
“Councillor Freeman was a dedicated advocate for our community, whose kindness and commitment touched the lives of many. She leaves behind a legacy of service and dedication as seen in the many important initiatives and milestones she has contributed to through the years. She will be greatly missed,” said Mayor Jim Harrison.
The flags at Quinte West City Hall will be lowered in Councillor Freeman’s memory. A book of condolence will be available in the lobby of City Hall starting Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025 and online at getinvolved.quintewest.ca for residents and the community.
Funeral and visitation information will be shared on the city’s website when it becomes available.
