The Belleville Police Service has released their upcoming strategic plan for 2026 through 2029.
The plan, titled “The Way Forward,” was revealed during Thursday’s meeting of the Police Service Board.
In preparation for the new plan, the police service sought feedback both internally and externally on what their priorities should be for the coming years. During this process they hosted round table discussions, a public survey, and town hall meetings.
The police service identified three priorities to work towards. The first priority listed in the plan is collaborative community safety and engagement. Under this objective, police are planning to build strategic partnerships that strengthen community safety, increase police visibility in the community, and increase transparency with public communications.
The second priority listed is people, culture, and capacity. This priority focuses on developing the officers of the police force. Some of the listed steps for this priority include measures to both attract and retain officers, along with training programs to develop the skills of their current officers.
The third priority is operational excellence, which the plan says includes modernizing communication and technology, and developing new procedures to streamline workflows for officers.
Police Chief Murray Rodd said that he believed being more visible in the community was the most important part of the plan.
“We have to engage with our partners internally and externally. We have to make sure that everyone’s heard and valued and contributing,” said Chief Rodd. “We’ve raised expectations, we have to raise performance.”
