The Municipality of Brighton has employed an animal control officer, commonly known as a dog-catcher for years, but soon that person will also be catching roaming cats.
Recently Brighton council approved spending an additional $12,000 a year for cat pick-ups
bringing its animal control budget to around $25,000 a year.
Animal control officers will catch and scan cats and post information for the owners to retrieve them from a shelter or they will be put up for adoption.
A formal cat-control by-law is coming to council for approval in the near future.
