A pair of search warrants in Centre Hastings have resulted in a drug seizure and six arrests for cultivation of cannabis.
Earlier in October, the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit began an investigation into a large outdoor cannabis production site in Centre Hastings. The investigation uncovered a second location where the plants were taken to be dried and processed.
This investigation resulted in the execution of two search warrants on Thursday, one at a residence on Highway 62, the other at a residence on Moira Road.
Investigators seized over 700 cannabis plants, along with other items including cell phones, an enclosed trailer and a tractor.
Police have charged 38-year-old Kirushanthy Janakan of Stirling and 40-year-old Janakan Silvalingam of Centre Hastings, along with 27-year-old Aswinkumar Kunjappan, 27-year-old Dennu Thomas, 28-year-old Christin Varghese and 28-year-old Nirmal Vincent of Scarborough with with cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants under the Cannabis Control Act.
All of the accused were released with a court date set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
