Quinte West City Council received an update on the Highway 401 Planning Study at its meeting on Wednesday.
Gregg Cooke, Consultant Project Manager with Stantec Consulting Ltd., and Lee Collins, Project Manager of Highway Engineering – Project Delivery East for the Ministry of Transportation delivered the presentation.
In the presentation, they outlined the preliminary design and environmental assessment for replacing and upgrading bridges, culverts, and interchanges over a 20km stretch of Highway 401 in Quinte West.
They discussed options for widening the highway and replacing structures, evaluated alternatives based on safety and community needs, and outlined impacts and mitigation plans.
“We are gearing up for public information centre number two, and again, that’s to present the technically-preferred plan,” Cooke explained to council.
“So at the Public Information Centre (PIC), we’ll have much bigger displays, and, you know, showing the entire corridor in much more detail, so we’ll present that to the public November 5, and then following that PIC we’ll be collecting input comments from the public and agencies, and we’ll take that information and further refine the plans and develop a recommended plan and finalize those mitigation measures.”
Cooke says the second public information centre is 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Duncan McDonald Memorial Community Gardens.
