The Bridgeport Islanders defeated the Belleville Senators 6-2, ending the Senators’ opening road trip.
Tyler Boucher and Carter Yakemchuk scored for the Senators.
The Senators opened scoring in the first frame, but the Islanders came back with two goals to take the lead. The Senators scored again to tie the game, but the Islanders grabbed one last goal with less than a minute in the frame to take a slim lead going into the second frame. In the second, both teams traded shots on net but the goalies played perfectly and neither team was able to score, keeping the Islanders’ slim lead intact. The Islanders went on to score three goals in the third period, two on an empty net, to extend their lead and win the game.
The Senators are returning home to CAA Arena for their home opener, coming up on Saturday. They’re hosting the Toronto Marlies at 7 p.m.
