Stirling-Rawdon council will be considering modernizing its in-house billing and payment procedures in the coming weeks.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Councillor Dean Graff asked for a staff report on the costs involved and options available to make receiving and paying municipal tax and other bills more convenient for ratepayers and businesses.
CAO Shelley Stedall said staff was already looking into making the billing and payment system more electronic but added that “e-transfers” would not be a good option for the municipality.
A report will come to a future council meeting.
Meanwhile, there could be changes to how municipal elections will be run in Stirling-Rawdon.
On Tuesday, council voted to support a Councillor Dean Graff motion to have staff report on the process required to dissolve the current two-ward system in favour of a municipality-wide vote.
Staff would also report on the advantages and disadvantages of the ward system as compared to an election at large.
For election purposes, Stirling-Rawdon is currently divided into a village or urban ward and another made up of the rural area.
Graff said removing the ward system would allow the best candidates to be elected while Mayor Bob Mullin said having to campaign in both the village and in the rural area would give candidates a better perspective on the issues facing the community.
Municipal elections will be held on October 26 of next year.
