Prince Edward County is preparing to form an Economic Development Task Team, to address the challenges facing the local economy.
In a motion by Councillor Chris Braney, council moved to have municipal staff prepare terms of reference for the new team. The proposed task team would include the chief executive officer of the Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce, the executive director of Visit the County, the executive director of Bay of Quinte Marketing Board, leadership from Prince Edward County Federation of Agriculture and Agri-tourism, along with members of council and municipal staff.
While speaking about the motion, Councillor Braney said that the group would serve as a forum for sharing information, aligning efforts, and looking for opportunities to strengthen the local economy.
“It’s not going to cost the municipality anything,” said Councillor Braney. “I do believe the collaboration and sort of the thought behind it, that could certainly bear a lot of good fruit for the municipality in the future.”
The motion passed after brief debate. Terms of reference are expected to be before council at their upcoming October 23 meeting.
