An initial investigation into a theft led to an impaired driving charge as well in Belleville.
On Tuesday at around 12:13 p.m., Belleville Police responded to a report of a theft from a business on Bell Boulevard.
Police say video surveillance showed a male suspect stealing items before leaving in a vehicle with a female passenger.
At around 12:56 p.m. that same day, police received a separate report of a possible impaired driver in the downtown area.
Officers attended and located the suspect vehicle in a parking lot, which was bearing the same license plate as the vehicle involved in the earlier reported theft.
Police approached the vehicle and spoke to the male driver.
Upon further investigation, officers spotted the male to be impaired and observed glass pipes in the vehicle.
As a result of investigation, Mark Proctor, 49-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:
- Theft under $5000
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
- Drive commercial motor vehicle – no license
- Failure to surrender permit for motor vehicle
He was released on an Undertaking and scheduled to appear in court in November.
