Some labour movement heavyweights will join the picket lines at Loyalist College as the strike by 159 college support workers continues.
A solidarity rally is being held at 10 o’clock this morning and the president of the Ontario Federation of Labour, Belleville’s Laura Walton, and the president of the Ontario Public Services Employees Union JP Hornick will both be at the rally.
The support workers at Loyalist belong to OPSEU Local 421 and thousands of others at other colleges in the province began a strike for job security and wages last Thursday.
Loyalist faculty, also OPSEU members, are not on strike but are being encouraged to join support staff at the rally.
The college is open and regular classes are being held.
