It is the Terry Fox weekend in the Quinte region.
Taking place across Canada, the local runs are in Belleville, Tweed, Marmora, Bancroft, Kingston, Peterborough, Napanee, Port Hope, Cobourg, Norwood, and Trenton.
Evelyn Wilson is helping organize the run in Trenton, which has taken a six-year hiatus.
The volunteer coordinator for the run says she is excited to get back at it for the first time since 2019.
“Extremely important to get the Terry Fox run back in Trenton. We have had huge success over the years. Trenton has raised $540,000.”
Wilson says she was inspired by Fox for his courage and dedication in the face of suffering, however, it also hits really close to home.
“Back in 2010 my own daughter (Katie) ended up with the same cancer, osteosarcoma, as Terry and she passed away. We want to continue the legacy to try to make money so they can find cures.”
She says for everyone taking part, it is about keeping a legacy alive.
“While this is the thing, it’s keeping a legacy alive, just as Terry’s legacy. His legacy was a dollar for every Canadian and this year the runs are hoping to hit the actual $1-billion mark.
