Durham Regional Police Service concluded its annual “In the Zone” traffic safety blitz around schools within Durham Region as students returned back to school.
The DRPS Traffic Services Branch, in conjunction with officers from all divisions, conducted a traffic enforcement campaign targeting school and community safety zones during the first week of back to school from September 2-5, 2025.
This year, more than 1,100 traffic tickets were issued during this blitz which included 527 speeding tickets, 16 tickets for cell phone violations, five tickets for stunt driving and 17 carless driving violations, among others.
The “In The Zone” campaign aims to ensure safety in school zones by promoting responsible driving through increased police presence and proactive traffic enforcement.
