Belleville council is set to debate the at times controversial issue of Downtown District parking at its meeting Monday (September 8).
Council will see a staff report making recommendations in what’s called Phase One of an overhaul of the parking system.
Recommendations include increasing set fines for infractions, increasing the fee for daytime parking permits, and increasing the hourly parking rate to $1.50 per hour from the current $1.00 an hour.
Belleville’s current fines and parking fees are lower than in most other similar municipalities in the region.

City council meets in open session at 4 p.m. at City Hall.
The meeting will be livestreamed on Youtube.
