The local unemployment rate ticked up again last month.
August’s unemployment rate for the the Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area, which includes Belleville, Quinte West, Deseronto-Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon, was 7.5 per cent, up three-tenths of a point from July.
The national unemployment rate also rose slightly from 6.9 per cent to 7.1.
Statistics Canada says the economy lost 66,000 jobs for the month including 6,000 full-time jobs.
Ontario’s unemployment rate fell in August, dropping to 7.7 per cent from 7.9 the month before.
