Quinte West City Council proclaimed the month of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month at its meeting on Wednesday.
Before council approved the proclamation, Evelyn Wilson, CEO and founder of Tears Mean Love, thanked council.
She shared personal stories about losing her twin brother and daughter to childhood cancer, and highlighted the challenges faced by families.
Wilson says that one in five children with cancer do not survive, and that many survivors face lifelong effects.
She also highlighted the return of the Terry Fox Run in Trenton as a related community event.
As part of the proclamation, the Veterans Skyway Bridge will be illuminated in the colour yellow for the month of Setpember.
