Fans at Brighton Speedway were treated to a full racing card on Saturday night that saw 79 cars in all five divisions battle to victory lane on Behan Construction night.
The night began with Dale Marois, Gord Fletcher, and Greg Anderson being inducted into the Brighton Speedway Wall of Fame.
Mowat Scores Back-to-Back Wins
No. 7 Anthony Rinaldi and No. 05 James Seymour led a field of 12 Vanderlaan Building Product Late Models to green in an exhilarating 30-lap showdown. Seymour slid into first on the outside on the lead lap and was ruthless in his pursuit of his first career win.
He did his best to hold off heat winner Brandon Mowat, but the heat winner was thirsty for back-to-back feature wins.
Mowat got a great run off the inside coming through turn 4 and down the front stretch to snap the top spot on lap 9.
Despite Seymour’s best efforts, he could not prevent Mowat from scoring his fourth season win. No. 57 Charlie Sandercock moved into second on the last lap with Seymour finishing third. No. 5 Steve Baldwin placed fourth and No. 11 Kyle Sopaz fifth.
Wadforth Wins #5
No. 51 Mike Freeman and No. 50 Dylan Boyle took 14 Bainer’s OILGARD Anti Rust Canadian Modifieds to the green flag for 25 laps.
Boyle jumped into the top position on the lead lap.
But he would not stay there long as No. 1 Shawn Gregory charged into first on his way through turn 4 and past the flag stand on lap 3.
Gregory was flawless for 17 laps as he and heat winner No. 40 Ron Wadforth sliced and diced through lapped traffic.
With five laps to go, Wadforth moved into first on the inside coming down the front stretch.
A mishap between Gregory and O’Blenis forced a caution, and the pair had to restart near the back of the field.
Wadforth entered the winner’s circle for the fifth time this year with Boyle as runner-up.
O’Blenis muscled through the field to finish third, No. 2 Leslie Mowat was fourth and No. 12 Caleb Severin fifth.
Gregory Grabs #4
No. 97 Dave Barrett and No. 72 Doug Anderson brought 21 Brighton Automotive Thunder Stocks to green in the 20-lap main event.
Anderson wasted no time moving into the lead on the first lap.
Anderson held his ground as he fought off No. 3 Justin Ramsay for the lead.
The pair tossed it back and forth as heat winners No. 26 Brock Gregory and No. 0 Tyler French powered through from their eighth and ninth starting positions.
All wheeling their supercharged Camaros, the four heavyweights treated race fans to an epic battle to the finish line.
With seven laps to go, Gregory grabbed the lead on the inside and shot to Empey Tire Victory Lane for the fourth time this season with Anderson in second.
French finished third, No. 10 Carter Rhodes fourth, and Ramsay fifth.
Bailey Brings Home Checkers
From his second starting position, heat winner No. 10 Travis McLean put the hammer down on the inside of the front stretch to take the top spot on the lead lap of the Bill’s Johns 4-cylinder feature.
“The Hammer” looked like he was well on to clinching his second season win in the 15-lap affair.
But No. 44 Tommy Bailey had other plans as he challenged McLean from the outside.
Bailey sailed into the lead on lap 11 and worked to fend off McLean and No. 22 Tyson Gregory.
With one lap to go, No. 21 Keith Dunk and No. 1 Coleson Gregory tangled in turn 2, bringing out the red flag.
Both drivers appeared from their vehicles uninjured, and when the action resumed, Bailey booked it to the winner’s circle with Gregory in second.
McLean was third, No. 42 Aidan Fletcher fourth and No. 2 Trevyn McCrillis fifth.
Cross Captures #2
No. 18 Brian Cross was quick to shoot into the lead ahead of polesitter No. 31 Billy O’Hara on the second lap of the Quinte Septic Stinger 12-lap feature. He charged ahead on the outside, coming through turn 3 to take the point and never looked back.
Cross captured his second season win with No. 21 Michael Storey in second. No. 95c Chris Lammle was third, No. 357 Ethan Lord fourth and No. 66 Ray Davies fifth.
