Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has concluded that there are no reasonable grounds to believe an OPP officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the death of a motorcyclist in Madoc.
On April 27, 2025, a 57-year-old man who was riding a motorcycle at Highway 7 and St Lawrence Street West, was struck by the driver of a Porsche.
The SIU says in a release that at the time, the driver of the Porsche was being pursued by an OPP officer for dangerous driving.
In his report, Director Joseph Martino says given the information at his disposal regarding the Porsche’s speed and its reckless operation via a 911 caller, and what the officer had personally seen of the vehicle’s speed as it passed him, the officer was within his rights in attempting to stop the Porsche.
Martino says the file is closed.
