Mayor Steve Ferguson and delegates from Prince Edward County will meet with officials from the Ministries of Health and Municipal Affairs and Housing at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa.
He’ll be joined by Councillors Janice Maynard and Sam Grosso at the conference which runs Sunday through Wednesday.
Ferguson calls this year’s conference especially critical as Ontario communities continue to face economic uncertainty fueled by the tariff dispute with the United States.
He says he’s looking forward to collaborating with other municipal leaders to explore ways to build and strengthen communities in the face of common challenges.
This year’s event features more than 60 speakers, sessions and workshops, reflecting the broad scope of municipal responsibilities. Premier Doug Ford, members of cabinet, and opposition leaders will all speak, as well as AMO President Robin Jones.
Key session topics will include affordable housing and growth, homelessness, infrastructure, property reassessment, artificial intelligence, and more. Experts will share insights on the impacts of the trade war and tariffs on municipalities and future opportunities.
The AMO will also launch its first Indigenous Reconciliation Action Plan.
In addition to the conference program, municipal staff and officials will take part in hundreds of municipal delegation meetings with provincial ministries.
The Prince Edward County group has a meeting with Minister of Health Sylvia Jones to discuss the funding framework for local public health and will sit down with Brian Saunderson, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to advocate for enhanced affordable housing funding support.
