United Way Hastings Prince Edward kicks off its annual Backpacks for Success School Supply Drive Saturday at Peter Smith GM in Belleville.
The United Way’s Emily Quesnelle calls the program a lifeline for local families.
They can purchase a backpack full of supplies for $12.
“Kids are able to get a brand new backpack loaded with all of the supplies that they need to succeed this school year. This year Backpacks for Success is helping more than 1,110 students locally throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. So it is hundreds of families that are helped with this program and it can only happen with community support.”
Donations are being accepted at Peter Smith Saturday through Friday.
“There is a Chevrolet Trax that is set up in the Peter Smith GM showroom and we are trying to fill that Chevy Trax with donated school supplies. We want it to be completely full to help ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed this school year.”
School supplies for students of all ages from crayons to glue sticks to scientific calculators and more are accepted.
