While its true that the mayor and council have all heard lots of complaints about the city’s Automated Speed Enforcement system and the speeding tickets it spits out, one councillor says there’s another side to the story.
Garnet Thompson told council Monday that he’s had numerous residents tell him they’d like speed cameras operating on more streets.
He gave as examples Palmer Road, Haig Road, and Farley Avenue.
Thompson says many people like the lower driving speeds the system has caused.
At Monday’s meeting, the majority of council rejected the idea of turning the cameras off during overnight hours.
However, Councillor Kelly Henderson will bring a motion to the next meeting asking that the cameras only be placed in school zones and nowhere else.
