Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee met with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte about a $19,100 grant from the province’s Capital Investments Grant used to install new basketball nets at three community parks.
The grant, delivered through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, allowed the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte to refresh the basketball courts at the bayshore, Lower Slash, and Huron Brant Drive North Parks.
In a release, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte say the new nets complement the two-year-old play structures and provide youth more opportunities to play and be active in the community.
“In my youth, I spent many hours playing pick-up basketball. It was not only great exercise, but also a great way to connect with kids and adults from across the community,” Bresee said in the release.
“I’m very happy with the province for supporting sports and recreation as well as community building with this funding.”
Chief R. Donald Maracle of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte also spoke on the investment from the province.
“It is always great for our community when we can provide opportunities for youth and future generations,” Chief Maracle said.
“This OTF Capital Grant has allowed the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte to offer brand new basketball nets throughout our community, giving youth an outlet and a safe space to play, practise and enjoy.”
