Quinte West OPP have charged a Carrying Place man in connection with numerous incidents over a four-year period that involved theft, damage and losses of nearly $300,000.
Police say the thefts, break-ins and mischief incidents began at a Carrying Place subdivision in 2021 and continued until recently.
Quinte West OPP began the initial investigation with the East Region Community Street Crime Unit joining the probe in July.
On Wednesday, police executed search warrants at a residence and a vehicle on Parkview Road in Carrying Place and arrested one person without incident.
Officers recovered a large quantity of stolen items, including power tools and electronics worth more than $17,000.
Thirty-one-year-old Mathew Gardiner is charged with:
- Break and enter to commit an indictable offence – four counts
- Wearing a disguise to commit an offence – four counts
- Theft over $5000 – six counts
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
- Mischief over $5000
- Mischief under $5000 – five counts
- Failing to comply with a probation order – eight counts
He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
