The Quinte West OPP Detachment Board will get a look at the 2024 crime stats at its meeting this morning (Monday).
There was just a slight increase in violent crime, with violent crimes investigated last year up six per cent over 2023 from 508 to 539.
There was a 12 per cent decrease in property crimes, dropping from 1,036 to 910.
Perhaps the biggest change in any category was the 35 per cent increase in traffic stops involving the ‘Big Four’ offences – distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding and seatbelt violations.
Stops for those infractions jumped 35 per cent from just over 1,900 to just over 2,600.
Detachment Commander Inspector Kristy McNaughton says traffic safety remains a key focus for the detachment.
